About the material PVC
Following are the characteristics of PVC materials:
- Low moisture absorption
- High chemical resistance
- Flame retardant, self-extinguishing
- Excellent insulation properties
- Higher impact strength and processability
- Good dimensional strength and water resistance
- Light weight and hardness
- Tear and abrasion resistance
- Excellent resistance to inorganic chemicals
Available Materials
PVC plastics are produced in large quantities and in many varieties, each with a different composition. The following are typical PVC plastics:
PVC-U | Unplasticised PVC
PVC-U stands for no added plasticizers and is the most common type of PVC. It is lightweight, easy to handle, highly resistant to chemicals, inexpensive and environmentally recyclable.
C-PVC | Chlorinated PVC
PVC-C stands for chlorinated PVC and offers high corrosion resistance, high durability and excellent impact resistance. It is more ductile and has a better temperature range than PVC-U.
PVC-O | Molecular oriented PVC
PVC-O transforms the amorphous structure of PVC-U into a laminated structure. Corrosion resistance, high strength and stiffness, good flexibility and ductility, better crack extension, impact and fatigue resistance.
Modified PVC
It is a thermoplastic alloy formed by adding compatible modifiers to PVC. Improved toughness, impact properties and resistance to crack extension, with greater fracture toughness and ductility of the material.
The above is the common PVC material grade information in processing, if you have other material grade needs, you can contact us directly for details and quotations.
Comparison of PVC Materials
Property | PVC-U | PVC-C | PVC-O | Modified PVC |
Flexibility | Rigid, no added plasticizers | Similar rigidity to UPVC | Extremely strong with high impact resistance | High impact strength, tougher than UPVC |
Chemical Resistance | Excellent | Better than UPVC, higher chlorine content | Good chemical resistance | Good, better than standard UPVC |
Temperature Resistance | Up to about 60°C | Up to about 80-95°C | High-temperature performance | Improved compared to UPVC |
Applications | Window frames, doors, piping | Hot water transportation, chemical processing | Pressure pipes, water mains, sewers | High impact areas, underground pipes |
Durability and Strength | Very durable and strong | Increased due to higher resistance | Exceptional durability, enhanced strength | Enhanced toughness |
Susceptibility to Deformation | Resistant to deformation | Less susceptible to thermal deformation | High resistance to deformation | Less deformation under impact |
Applications for PVC plastic
PVC is lightweight, durable and easy to clean, making it ideal for wet environments such as kitchens and bathrooms. At the same time, the rich selection of colors and textures allows for more personalized home décor.
In the advertising industry, PVC board has become an excellent material for displays and billboards thanks to its lightweight and transparent properties.
For model makers, PVC board is an ideal material. It can be cut, bent and molded into a variety of shapes according to design needs, providing great convenience for model making.
You may not know that PVC board also plays a role in electronic products. It can be used as the substrate of the circuit board, good insulation, high temperature resistance, to ensure the stable operation of electronic products.
PVC board is also found in children’s toys. It is non-toxic, odorless, safe and reliable, ideal for toy manufacturing. And its diversity and plasticity provide unlimited possibilities for toy design.

Frequently Asked Questions about PVC CNC Machining
There are two types of PVC, rigid (RPVC) and soft. Rigid PVC is mainly used for construction pipes, doors and windows, etc., while soft PVC has plasticizers added to make it softer and more flexible for a variety of uses such as pipes, cable insulation, flooring, signs, phonograph records, inflatable products, and more.
The main reasons for choosing CNC machining PVC parts include high precision and accuracy, excellent repeatability and consistency, the ability to handle a wide range of complex shapes and structures, efficient production capabilities, and a wide range of material adaptability.
The advantages of PVC parts mainly include corrosion resistance, heat resistance, flame retardancy, mechanical properties, insulation properties, moldability and environmental friendliness.
In CNC machining, we offer the main families of plastic materials. They offer different properties. The material is chosen according to the technical constraints of parts and their final use. Our workshop is able to assist you in the selection of materials to meet your specifications. Here are some examples of recommendations to ensure certain properties:
- Transparent plastic parts are feasible with PC and PMMA;
- We recommend ABS for projects without specific constraints;
- PP offers good mechanical strength, resistance to shock and bending;
- POM allows a spring effect and provides good rigidity;
- PA 6 exhibits good resistance to wear and mechanical stress;
- PVC is relatively resistant to acids, shocks, and weather.
People choose CNC machining over other methods for making custom PVC parts mainly because CNC machining offers several advantages:
- Ability to iterate and improve quickly
- High dimensional accuracy
- Controlled surface finish
- Machining characteristics applicable to custom plastic parts.
